The Journal of Research Methodologists (JRM) is delighted to announce a Call for Papers for its upcoming special edition, titled: “AI-Driven Technologies in Research Methods and Knowledge Creation.”

As a peer-reviewed, Open Access journal (ISSN 3078-2139), JRM is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of Social Sciences and interdisciplinary scholarship by promoting innovative, context-sensitive research methodologies. Read more about JRM here JRM Information

This upcoming volume will focus on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related technologies are transforming research design, data collection, analysis, and knowledge production, particularly within emerging and underexplored contexts, including the African research landscape.

Focus Areas

  • AI and Mixed Methods Research: Exploring how AI tools augment or reshape mixed methods approaches; machine learning for integrating qualitative and quantitative datasets.
  • AI-Augmented Qualitative Research: Use of natural language processing, text mining, and automated coding; ethical and interpretive challenges in AI-assisted qualitative inquiry.
  • Epistemological Shifts and Knowledge Creation: Philosophical and theoretical reflections on AI’s role in knowledge production; how AI challenges or supports existing research paradigms.
  • African-Centered Perspectives: AI applications tailored to African societal needs, cultural contexts, and data ecosystems; integrating indigenous knowledge systems into AI-driven research tools.
  • Ethics, Bias, and Responsible Use: Addressing bias, fairness, and transparency in AI tools for research; ethical frameworks for applying AI in sensitive or vulnerable research settings.
